Limitless Website
Digital Media & Design seniors at UConn create a project to show off the skills they learnt during their education over the course of the fall and spring semesters. These projects are then presented in a public exhibition during the spring semester, which students prepare for in committees. The exhibition for Spring 2023 was Limitless, and I was part of the website committee.
Challenge
Along with the preparations for the exhibition in a physical location, there was to be a website that gives information on each student and their projects, including images or trailers. The most important action was putting in this information for every senior, but we were also expected to edit the website's aesthetics in order to match the established theme, which was set up by another committee. This was to be done through changing fonts, colors, and putting in the specially made graphics.
Approach
Our committee of 5 members created a Google Document to organize our due dates and objectives. We also set up a group chat to always be in contact with each other at all times in order to give feedback to changes any of us made. A Google Sheet with student's information to be put on the website was organized and filled out, giving us an easy way to put the information into the website. We had a template to work from. We used MAMP to test the website locally on our computers, and then used Cyberduck to upload our files to the public website.
Process
The first changes we made was setting up the fonts for the headers and paragraphs. Afterwards, we began the long process of plugging every student's information into a php file for each of their individual pages. We also had to upload images that represented their project. When every student project was put on the website, we moved on to updating the about and contact information. We finished it with adding an animation created by the identity team to the homepage, and changing the colors of certain texts and fonts in order to match the aesthetics of the Exhibition better.
